![]() I'd wager it might be easier to play V if you have no prior experience with other Gradius games and just play it tabula rasa, devising strategies according to the general premise instead of trying to implement time-proven solutions, or I just horribly suck at V, which is a very plausible explanation. Even during III's tougher sections I never felt as nervous as I did with V. I also find the game to be exceedingly stressful: the hitbox is so tiny that I constantly think I'm about to die to something, then I panick and lose a life for real. ![]() The extend scheme is not all that generous, hence every life counts. Granted, recovery in a lot of spots might be slightly to substantially easier than it is in II, III and IV, yet splurging on lives in hazardous situation hangs over the player as the sword of Damocles. Not only is it necessary to contrive a new mindset compared to all the other games (regarding the ship speed, the hitbox, a lot of the level layout and even the bosses), but the player also has to stay sharp for a very long time. I'll concede that I had (still have, actually!) considerable problems getting to grips with it. I would not want to see the normal endings after the later 3.Since we already have an exhaustive thread for the Darius games and I just got a first kuso clear of Gradius V, thus completing the "canonical" saga (as well as several ports) I felt the urge to create a thread for this venerable series.įor I played V the last few days I must confess that I'm somewhat surprised that a lot of people around here consider it to be more accessible than most of its brethren. My opinion will always remain the normal endings are boring :/ and if played properly, the order i followed actually sets u up properly to ge the holy sword/conquest/ true endings. And I avoided the MMO grind using this simple guide. other than that It was great).īut I found that guide to work really well for the sequence I unlocked them. (the guide for some reason though lily ranks needed to be accomplished BEFORE chapter 5. It was mostly good but ended up with the wrong requirements for a couple of the later endings. I used a reddit guide for the endings that based it on requirements, IE difficulty to unlock and suggested order. Also if you hate grinding there is a guide to get the lily ranks very quickly. The amount of tedious regrinding in this game (from share switching to lily rank grinding) is almost akin to a Korean MMO leveling, so you will burn a lot of time just doing this over and over again I only played 2 loops. ![]() Originally posted by IEatCats:The guide is fine, the just don't give a recommended order of running Only tough part is doing the Colosseum and Quests for Planeptune's Shares, which even that can be breezed through within like 3 hours if you know where to go.īut yes, you will want to go for Conquest Ending first, because not only is it a depressing ending (the other endings will make up for it,) but if you go into NG+ and start getting requirements for True Ending and whatnot, you can essentially lock yourself from doing the Conquest Ending unless you know the workaround to get the CPUs first and not the Oracles (Even though, it's hard to lock yourself out of Conquest Ending and go down Holy Sword by accident, since Holy Sword requires you to have a high Lily Rank with the CPUs and others.) Just to note, Conquest is not the hardest ending to get, if it's any thing like Mk2 (I purposefully have not touched the game yet until later this week.) If you're doing a good amount of quests as you are doing the early chapters, you can easily view the Cursed Sword chirpers without having to do too much Share Grinding to unlock them.
