It’s just a shame that there’s not really much overlap between those two gameplay styles. It was a sequel to its predecessor in appearance, but not in gameplay.Īs far as our apparent disagreement about what the Star Fox series is “supposed” to be, it sounds like it’s a classic case of bias toward what you grew up with - I grew up on 64 and you grew up on SFA, so we both want a sequel to the game we connected with. I guess I dislike it for the same reason people disliked Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts or Zelda II: Adventure of Link. And it certainly wasn’t a satisfying sequel to Star Fox 64. I love Zelda, for sure! I played SFA, but it just kind of felt like diet Zelda. I can definitely see the fun of ship-missions, but I don't understand why you would want just that in a new Star Fox-game? You probably like Zelda since this is a Zelda forum, so why not mix great ship-missions with great exploration on-foot? This is also an approach I could see Metroid to take. The only Star Fox game I ever have bought and played through is Adventures, and that was pretty good. I never played Assault so I can't comment on that. I wonder if some of the reason Zero was a reboot has to do with the powers that be not being big fans of some of the decisions made in Assault - new members like Krystal and Panther, weird plot beats like Eldritch Horror Pigma. I think they leaned way too far into that in Assault, but then they overcorrected in Zero by fully rebooting. I agree that the on-foot missions should definitely be overhauled if they make a return, and the idea of exiting a vehicle was pretty great. I was in college when it released and didn’t really have time for video games. They just had to make the on-foot missions play like an actually good shooter.Īh, see, I never really knew that about Zero. I think the whole dynamic of going in an out of your ship to complete different objectives is a shit-ton of fun. ![]() There's some things they did with Assault that I would love to see expanded. Nothing I'd want to play again honestly.Īlso I genuinely think that Star Fox never needed a reboot. honestly not a bad game but still nothing too exciting. Like none of the gyrowing missions were fun and that has nothing to do with controls.įix the controls and what you're left with is. It really is kind of just a worse Star Fox 64 except with missions thrown on top that are just plain unbearable to play. Controls aside, Star Fox Zero is generally.
